Mercer Island Farmers Market is passionate about supporting our farmers.
Come visit on Sundays and discover where your food comes from, what you are eating and feeding your family. Healthy foods fuel healthy bodies. http://ow.ly/i/5Y5QM
The MIFM Board is hosting this evening to say “thank you” to our wonderful community of volunteers, supporters and friends. There will be food, fun and a chance to sample beer and wine from local vendors. We will also be kicking off our Fall campaign to become a “Friend of the Market”. We rely on the generous support of local businesses and individual donors to keep this important neighborhood resource thriving and growing. By becoming a Friend of the Market, you will help us ensure another great season of food, farms and friends. We hope to see you there! Let us know you plan to attend clicking here: RSVP Oktoberfrest
One of my favorite features of our market is the music – it brings a vibrancy to Sunday afternoons at Mercerdale Park no matter what the weather is. The terrific variety and talent of the musicians playing at our market each Sunday occurs thanks to John Morris, a Mercer Island resident who has coordinated music for the market since it’s inception in 2008. John and his wife Karen have their own Cajen/Zydeco band called Swamp Soul that plays around Seattle.
During our 18 week season, John schedules a different group to play each Sunday from 11 am to 2pm introducing shoppers to a fantastic mix of musical sounds and styles. The Mercer Island Community Fund has sponsored our music program for the past several years. Thank you MICF and John for bringing music to the market every Sunday!
Joining us to celebrate our 6th anniversary is a musical duo with strong roots in the farmers market movement. The Summer Januaries, guitarist/vocalist Sean Michael Robinson and fiddler/vocalist Rachel Erin Sage started busking at Pike’s Place Market several years ago playing traditional American and Irish fiddle tunes. I think you will find their sound and synergy to be fresh and oh so yummy this sunny Sunday afternoon.
The Summer Januaries are celebrating the National Farmers Market Week by playing at a different market every day this week and next. We are thrilled they will join us at our market on Sunday from 11 am to 2pm. Their plunge in the pond in their video looks pretty darn appealing, especially with this week’s warm weather.
Come by on Sunday to hear the Summer Januaries, sample some Marionberry pie from High 5 Pie and pick up a 2013 market tote. And don’t forget your peaches, berries, salmon, cheeses, melons, corn, tomatoes, peppers, pasta, wine, honey, hummus and more . . .
Sno Valley Mushrooms is making a special guest vendor appearance at the Mercer Island Farmers Market, Sunday July 21. Come find out about farm-fresh gourmet cultivated mushrooms. Sno Valley will be bringing Shiitake, Lions Mane, and Blue Oyster mushrooms and “Grow-at-Home” counter-top mushroom kits. Their state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility allows them to cultivate hundreds of pounds a week of lignivorous (wood-loving) edible and medicinal fungi.
Their mushrooms are grown using only red alder wood, organic bran, organic rye berries, and water–and inoculated with only the choicest strains of pure mushroom cultures from their own in-house spawn laboratory. Try growing your own or try a unique culinary experience with truly fresh mushrooms.
